“You’ll never hop alone”

Rabbit School celebrates World Premiere at Berlinale Generation K+

Stuttgart/Berlin, January 26, 2017 –

Based on THE classic German Easter book, Universum Film’s release of Akkord Film’s animated film adaptation, RABBIT SCHOOL – GUARDIANS OF THE GOLDEN EGG, on 450 German screens on 16.3.2017 is highly anticipated here in Germany. The film will be released in France by Gebeka on 5.4.2017 on at least 120 screens, other theatrical releases for Easter 2017 are planned in Poland, Turkey, South Korea, Serbia, Middle East, Hungary, Iceland and Estonia with more coming.

The cute and smart rabbits and the cunning foxes were brought to life in brilliant images (also available in stereoscopic 3D) by Akkord Film, one of the leading German production companies in animated family entertainment with Studio Rakete’s Peter Bohl (‘Oops Noah’s Gone’) as animation director. Highly experienced director Ute von Münchow-Pohl (LAURA’S STAR AND THE DREAM MONSTERS, RAVEN THE RASCAL) helmed the film which combines an internationally commercial look with an artistic approach by renowned art director Heiko Hentschel (also ‘Oops Noah’s Gone’).

The Berlinale chose RABBIT SCHOOL for its children’s film competition Generation K+ and calls it “a modern adventure full of cheeky wit” and “a pure delight buoyed by imagination and brisk pacing.” Akkord Film’s CEO, Dirk Beinhold, a former Creative Executive at New Regency, ProSieben and Studio Babelsberg, adds, “Our company’s strength lies in top level story development which enables us to internationally compete with animated films from around the world. It’s a big honor to be selected for the Berlinale’s children’s film competition with such a commercial film.”

Sola Media, German world sales agent specializing in high quality family entertainment, could not resist the charm of the sweetest and darling animals either and represents film and merchandizing rights. Besides Christmas, Easter is the most beloved holiday in western culture and could be regarded as a brand worldwide. In contrast to the abundance of Christmas films on the market every year, there are hardly any Easter films so that the film covers a very attractive niche for an early spring release instead of having to deal with a highly competitive situation.

“We are thrilled about the huge interest in RABBIT SCHOOL triggered by the screening of a short teaser during the Marché du Film in Cannes. The interest in the market for this title confirms that animated films made in Germany are currently in high demand among international distributors”, says Solveig Langeland, Managing Director at Sola Media.

The story: Max, an urban rabbit boy, gets trapped in an old-fashioned Easter rabbit school that is surrounded by a clever fox family scheming to take over Easter. With the help of cute rabbit girl Emmy and training lessons from mysterious Madame Hermione, Max not only learns the secret magic of Easter bunnies, but also where he truly belongs. Will this be enough to save Easter and his new friends? A story about a courageous rabbit who realizes that home is where your heart is – and where you’ll never hop alone.
